The village of Mountshannon, County Clare was built on a green field site between 1738 and 1742. "Fifty staunch and tenantable houses fit for tradesmen and manufacturers to dwell in" were built. Flax culture was to be the dominant industry. Some of the houses and a market house that has changed little since it was built in the 1740's can still be seen. This publication contains fifty two pictures of dwellings, landscapes and monuments that epitomize the history and culture of Mountshannon.
