Holy Island - Inis  Cealtra

Holy Island on Lough Derg and the river Shannon is one of the most famous monastic sites in Ireland. Its many attractions include a well-preserved Round Tower, the ruins of six churches, a Holy Well, a unique graveyard with slabs dating from the eight century and a cell like structure, which is one of the most extraordinary buildings in Ireland.
In March 2010, Holy Island was recognised as one of the foremost monastic sites in Ireland and added to a list of properties submitted to UNESCO for future nomination to the World Heritage List [...]

Holy Island Boat Trips & Guided Tours

Gerard Madden, local historian and author of the histories of Holy Island, Scariff, Mountshannon and Tuamgraney, offers boat trips and guided tours of Holy Island from Mountshannon Pier. Tours take place daily, weather permitting, from April to the end of September.
